Herb Ryman and the American Adventure
Concept sketches by Herb Ryman reveal early plans for the American Adventure to have a third host- Will Rogers. Ultimately dropped from the show because he seemed to be less organic and mythological than Twain and Franklin, most of the show was planned to include him, especially in the 20th Century scenes.
Also interesting to note is Ryman’s work on a Huckleberry Finn scene, undoubtedly to be narrated by the author, Mark Twain. This concept never materialized either. The possibility of the American Adventure tackling literature (after all, Uncle Tom’s Cabin is mentioned.. as are American authors John Steinbeck and Thomas Wolfe) is an exciting one to consider, and would certainly lend breadth to America’s spot in World Showcase.

I really would have liked Walter Cronkite as the third narrator, although I know it would have been weird to have when...
