Space Mountain Spire Construction
These 1974 shots reveal the interesting methods used in creating the Magic Kingdom’s first mountain. While the main “cone” is made out of stressed and prefabricated concrete, the “peak” of the mountain is metallic, and separate from the mountain and main spire that tops off the mountain. The first shot shows the spire already installed, with the peak of the cone missing.
